What is the Essential Central Bar Separator?
It is the simplest way to open up a gap between two tiers. A single central pillar sits between a top plate and a base plate, holding the tier above clear of the one below so you get that raised, floating look without a full stand.
Because the top plate, the base plate and the pillar are all chosen separately, you can match the separator to the cake rather than the other way round. A 4" top plate over a 10" base gives a stepped, tapered profile. Matching plates give a clean column. Every set is 3D printed to order in food-safe Eco PLA and finished in the colour you choose, so it either disappears into the design or becomes part of it.
Choosing Your Combination
- Top plate should suit the tier sitting on it. Match it to the tier diameter, or go slightly smaller for a floating edge.
- Base plate should suit the tier underneath. Larger bases spread the load and give a more stable, stepped look.
- Pillar height sets the gap. 2" and 3" give a subtle lift, 4" and 6" are the popular middle ground for display, and 8" creates a dramatic open space for florals or props.

Which plate sizes should I pick?
Start with the tier that sits on top and choose a top plate to match or sit just inside it. Then choose a base plate that suits the tier below. Matching plates give a straight column look, while a smaller top over a larger base gives a stepped, tapered profile.
Is it strong enough to hold real cake?
Yes. Dowel the tier below as you normally would, set the separator level and centred, and the plates will carry a real cake safely. For tall or heavy builds, use a larger base plate and keep the pillar height sensible.
Why is this cheaper than your other separators?
The Essential range strips the design back to what does the work: two plates and one central pillar, printed in the same food-safe material as the rest of the range. You get the height and the finish without paying for the extra columns and fixings of our larger separator systems.
Can I buy extra pillars or plates on their own?
Yes. Individual central pillars are listed separately, so you can build up a set of heights over time and swap them into the same plates.
Do the colours match your other products?
They do. The five colours here are taken from the same palette used on The Muse Cake Stand, so a separator can be matched to a stand across the same design.
How do I clean it?
Wipe clean with warm soapy water only. Avoid abrasive cloths and harsh detergents, and do not put it in the dishwasher. Please wash before first use.

When caring for and cleaning your products, please use warm soapy water and wipe clean only. Abrasive cloths and detergents should not be used. This item is not suitable for the dishwasher and should not be submerged in water.
Although the highest amount of care has been taken to ensure each product is food-safe and ready for you to use, please wash before first use.

UK Delivery
Within the UK, deliveries will usually take place between 8am and 6pm and all our delivery methods our fully tracked. We offer free UK standard delivery (3-4 days) on orders over £75*. For orders under £75, a £3.95 P&P charge will be applied at checkout. UK orders over £150 benefit from free express delivery (1-2 days).
International Delivery
We ship globally with the majority of orders being despatched via our expedited service with Royal Mail or DHL Express. Orders to the US and Canada can arrive in as little as 2-3 business days, while other international locations take on average 3-5 business days. Please note, delivery times vary depending on your address and are for guidance only.
Returns Policy
We offer the right to return within 14 days of purchase.
You must contact us within 14 days and we must receive your return within 30 days. If 30 days have passed since your purchase, unfortunately we cannot offer you a refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.
Please note - return orders may be subject to a £2.00 restock and admin fee. This will be deducted from your refund.
