How to choose a cake stand

Size: as a rule of thumb, pick a stand top at least 2 inches (5cm) wider than the bottom tier, so the cake sits with a clean border. Shop stands for cakes 10 inches and under or 10 inches and over.
Shape: pedestal stands lift a cake into the eye line, platform stands and plinths give tall, heavy wedding cakes a solid base.
